Prattville, Alabama, a New England- style Town in Central Alabama. It is the birthplace of industry in Alabama. Prattville's history spans the life and accomplishments of its Father, Daniel Pratt, He later was associated with the cotton gin manufacturer Samuel Griswold, and became Griswold's partner. Deciding to expand their gin manufacturing operation into Alabama, in late 1835, Pratt purchased nearly 2000 acres of land Which became the boom of the town. Prattville features the Daniel Pratt Historic District, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, where some of the sites date back to the Civil War era. Prattville is the seat of government in Autauga County. Nicknamed the "Fountain City" (Because of the abundance of artesian wells that once flowed through town. In fact The name Autauga is thought to have been derived from the Indian word Atagi which means water.)Autauga County was established by the Second Alabama Territorial Legislature in 1818, a full year before Alabama became a state.
